Event Details

Over 35 million people have died of HIV or AIDS related illnesses since being identified in 1984, and it's estimated that 38 million people are living with HIV today. While HIV can affect anyone, this epidemic continues to disproportionately impact certain members of the LGBTQ+ community even more. According to U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), bisexual and gay man, and transgender women are more likely to be diagnosed with HIV in their lifetime.

We are partnering with the Terrence Higgins Trust, a leading organisation in HIV and sexual health research, to provide you with the stories of the Positive Voices. A team of volunteers who provide education sessions about their personal experiences of living with HIV.

Questions We are Going to Answer:

  • What is HIV and AIDS?
  • How can HIV be transmitted?
  • Who is at risk for HIV?
  • How can HIV infection be prevented?
  • Is there a cure for HIV?
  • Can you live with HIV?
  • How does HIV impact the LGBT community?

Why is 'World Aids Day' important today?

  • Raises awareness about HIV and AIDS.
  • Provides a safe space for people to be inquisitive and learn from the topic.
  • Raises visibility and breaks down stigmas and prejudices.
  • Raises funds for HIV cure research.
  • Amplifies the experiences of LGBT+ people and provides comfort to those who have HIV.
