1. Research finds inclusive marketing key in generating value |
| On 02 August 2024, new research was published in the Journal of Psychology & Marketing which found that marketers need to embrace inclusive marketing further to generate value for all actors in the marketplace: individuals, companies and society. The research analysed 52 peer-reviewed articles to reach this conclusion. _____ Our View: LGBT Great’s own research titled “Seeing is Believing” also found evidence to support this finding, with 3 in 5 LGBTQ+ respondents revealing that they were more likely to shop with/purchase from organisations that have a visible LGBTQ+ presence.
The business case for LGBTQ+ inclusion across all verticals of an organisation has become undeniable, with myriads of data underscoring its significance. 2. Openly LGBTQ+ athletes win 43 medals in 2024 Olympics |
|
According to OutSports, the 2024 Olympics saw openly LGBTQ+ athletes win 43 total medals, with 16 gold medals, 13 silver medals and 14 bronze medals. A total of 199 openly out LGBTQ+ athletes took part in the games. _____ Our View: The Paris Olympics has set a new record for the most openly out athletes, suggesting a robust link between expanded rights and protections and increased visibility in sports. We hope the trend continues with the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics toppling this record with an even greater openly out LGBTQ+ representation. |

3. 41% of LGBTQ+ youth considered suicide in 2023 |
| TW: Mentions of S*icide On 06 August 2024, the CDC published a new report analysing youth risk behaviour which revealed that 41% of the LGBTQ+ respondents had considered attempting suicide in 2023. For non-LGBTQ+ youth, this number was 13%. _____ Our View: A report by Just Like Us, an LGBTQ+ young people’s charity also found that LGBTQ+ young adults were 3x more likely to face a mental health condition than their non-LGBTQ+ counterparts, highlighting that disproportionate mental health outcomes for LGBTQ+ youth still persist across borders. 4. Democrat's VP pick Tim Walz record in supporting LGBTQ+ rights |
| On 06 August 2024, Kamala Harris picked Tim Walz as the running mate for the US Presidential elections. His track record on LGBTQ+ protections includes 1) signing a law to ban conversion practices in Minnesota, 2) protecting trans youth from other states to come to Minnesota to access gender-affirming care, and 3) supporting same-sex marriage equality since 2006. _____ Our View: In 2024 alone, US legislatures have introduced a shocking 527* anti-LGBTQ+ bills, disproportionately targeting trans youth. This alarming surge in anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric from politicians is deeply concerning. Witnessing Tim Walz's unwavering support for trans protections offers a glimmer of hope, reminding LGBTQ+ Americans that progressive change may just be around the corner.

5. Argentine government shuts down anti-discrimination agency |
| On 06 August 2024, the Argentine administration led by President Javier Milei announced its decision to close the National Institute Against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism (INADI). INADI was formed in 1995 to offer key resources and advocate for protections against discrimination based on gender identity, sexual orientation and other characteristics. _____ Our View: The Argentine public sentiment toward the LGBTQ+ community is overwhelmingly positive, as evidenced by the most recent Ipsos Mori report where 3 in 5 respondents said they supported laws banning discrimination against LGBTQ+ people in employment, access to education etc. However, this progress results from decades of tireless awareness campaigns and lobbying efforts by organisations like INADI. The closure of INADI represents a significant setback in the fight for equitable outcomes for the Argentine LGBTQ+ community and other marginalised groups.
